This is the REACTION project
The aim of the REACTION project is to develop an integrated ICT platform that supports improved long term management of diabetes based on wearable, continuous blood glucose monitoring sensors and automated closed-loop delivery of insulin. The REACTION platform will present an interoperable peer-to-peer communication platform based on Service Oriented Architecture (SoA) using cloud-enabling midddleware. It will feature a Model Driven Application Development environment based on extensive use of dynamic ontologies.
The REACTION platform will provide integrated, professional, management and therapy services to diabetes patients in different healthcare regimes across Europe, including 1) professional decision support for in-hospital environments, 2) safety monitoring for dosage and compliance, 3) long term management of outpatients in clinical schemes, 4) care of acute diabetic conditions and 5) support for self management and life-style changes for diabetic patients.
This site is provided to inform the scientific community and other interested parties about the scientific results of the REACTION project. By browsing these pages, you will find more detailed information about the progress of the project and our achievements.
REACTION videos now on the website
The REACTION project produces a number of videos as part of the project's dissemination of results to the public.
The first video is now available on the website.
The video shows safe glucaemic control in the hospital ward, which was the subject of the first year's prototype demonstrator. In the general ward, a REACTION application monitors a range of parameters including glucose level, nutritional intake as well as measures of administered drugs (e.g. oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin) among other parameters (e.g. insulin sensitivity).
See the video here.
eHealth stakeholder group
The European Commission has selected 29 members to participate in its new eHealth Stakeholder Group.
The members are expert representatives of European umbrella organisations active in the eHealth sector and the group is expected to contribute to the development of legislation and policy related to eHealth such as the Digital Agenda on eHealth and eHealth Action Plan.
IST-Africa 2012
The conference which is hosted by the Government of Tanzania and supported by the European Commission, takes place on 9-11 May 2012 in Tanzania.
It brings together senior representatives from leading commercial, government & research organisations across Africa and from Europe. This year the focus is on applied ICT including eHealth and Health Information Systems.
Recapture eHealth Week 2011
Find presentations, pictures and articles from the event on the EU Information Society portal. Next year's event will be in Copenhagen, Denmark 7-9 May 2012.Initial architecture of the REACTION platform and its components

To evaluate the first year of the REACTION project and plan for the next 6 months, project partners met for the third REACTION Project Board Meeting on 21-23 March 2011, organised by partner IMM on their premises in Mainz. Partners presented and discussed the technical and scientific progress made which has resulted in the definition of an initial architecture for the REACTION platform.
